Newest Sound

So I'm the new guy, the rookie in the band. I also hope it stays that way because I couldn't ask for a better group of...........oh hey look, a distraction. Don't you see it? I think you get the point.

The formality of my first post is almost over and though I would love to sit here and virtually hang out with all of you I'd much rather listen to some hip music with any of you in person.

(Check out some Jazz Bag Pipes ala Rufus Harley):

Listen to music in the foreground of your life. It tastes much better as a main ingredient.

Its my first time... be gentle

The Higher ups here at Half Past Two have instructed us to all post on our blog.  I wasn't entirely aware that we had a blog.  I've safely decided that I can claim the title of "least informed" band member or at least "most oblivious."  Anyway, I prefer things more Lo-Fi which is why I would like to announce the first issue of the monthly HP2 Fanzine HEY!PANIC!  Its made of paper and will be available (hopefully monthly) at our Merch Booth or by sending a stamp to HEY!PANIC! 4441 Ironwood Ave. Seal Beach, CA 90740.

This month we have contributions from almost every member of the band (sorta) including an article from Country Dave on the consequences of Ska on the recession and a Coloring Contest!

If you want to contribute to/ be featured in next month's issue, write to the above address or send an email to heypanic@gmail.com with your business in it and we'll judge you directly.

When you have 11 strings on one guitar, who needs a bass?

Props to the dude for making his own instrument, but unprops for being in a Swedish nu-metal band.

An as-of-yet unreleased track from "It's About Time" was featured in the World Ska Radio podcast here.  You can catch us at the 3 Floors of Ska show Feb. 7 at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.

Atoms, Reshuffling

Alex and I saw her last night.  I believe the correct genre would be "meta-shred."

When The Levee Breaks...

The rumors of my shirtless performances have been greatly exaggerated.

Between two out of county shows this weekend Curtis and I found time to record four unreleased Jacob Greene songs.  We were both impressed that we made it through that many.  Muscle memory on autopilot does a great deal of good in remembering 8 minute long songs from 5 years ago.  Stringing twenty non-repeating guitar riffs together is really a lost songwriting art.  But kids dig this chorus thing I keep hearing so much about, at least according to Dave.

I think Alex and Dave have a side project too named Love Songs For Robots.  One day they will be cool and make a myspace.  I wonder what other side project pairs we could form in HP2...

Bakti and Ian would form a duet and call it Jazz.  That name may have been claimed already, but I don't speak French and know what a "genre" is.

JavaSka this Friday.  That means even more recording for me.  I'm currently mixing the rest ofThe Pocketeers set from December and I need to get started on Defunked too.  Which reminds me, I need to post The B Sharp's live version of "La Policia" on the myspace player.  So far, that track is my favorite recording for the JavaSka Live compilation.  Skamikaze has opted to record a four song EP with me at Elation Station Studios this weekend and I've got Steven Shafer coming in at the beginning of February.  He apparently likes to trade his riddims for a few vowels in this configuration, but it might just be a doppelganger.

Thanks to all who kept us busy this weekend.  Skamikaze may not speak Japanese very well or know how to design an original t-shirt, but they do know how to raise funds and feed the bands.  Mad props to Danny for showing me where to buy 50 lumpia for $17.50, and slightly less props to Alex the giant for eating about 30 of them.

Big League

Guess who just got booked to DJ a birthday party for a four year old this Saturday.

I'll give you a hint.  His name starts with a 'T' and ends with a 'yler.'

A Big Post of Things From a Guy Who Doesn't Post a Lot

First here's a big list of my favorite albums of 2008:
1. The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound
2. Alkaline Trio - Agony and Irony
3. Frank Turner - Love, Ire & Song
4. Dillinger Four - C I V I L W A R
5. No Torso - Ready Already
6. Hold Steady - Stay Positive
7. Murder By Death - Red of Tooth and Claw
8. Dead To Me - Little Brother
9. Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Susquehanna
10. Old Crow Medicine Show - Tennessee Pusher

Now kids, do you like the television show "Heroes"?
How about Reggae music, do you like that too?
Are you a fan of bleeding out of your ears?
THAN HAVE I GOT A VIDEO FOR YOU!!!!!!

That's right, move over Miley Cyrus, there's a new princess of pop in town and her ghost writers are even worse than yours!   Now I'm not going to get on my super high horse here and talk about the decline of pop music (sam cooke is not stoked), nor about the current trend of bastardizing Reggae (god damn you paris hilton).  I will say that if I listen to your song and think to myself, "man 'Womanizer' is a more socially redeeming experience than this," then you've got problems, big problems.

That being said expect the next HP2 album to sound exactly like this because this shit is going to move like (that's) hot cakes.

I picked up the last componenet for my recording/PA rig off of craigslist.  Here it is:

777

Hi Internet,

Since the big scary monster known as "compiling notes for final mixes" has been slain, I've been forced to do things with my spare time that do not actually involve HP2.  Since busy is never a bad thing, here is a short list:

  1. Magical cards
  2. Tejano songs for a Mexican bar fight scene*
  3. 21 space rack for my PA
  4. JG reunion?
  5. Exotic sausages of the Korean and Thai persuasion
  6. GChat with friends in Kazakhstan
  7. Compilation**
7 is a good number to end on.  Work at 7 tomorrow.  Bye.

*Will be HP2 related if I can convince Tara to sing in Spanish
**JavaSka is an ancillary division of Half Past Two Enterprises, Ltd.

paranoid

when i get to this point, the point were i really like someone, i get paranoid. thats normal right? i keep thinking that maybe he doesnt like me as much as i think he does. maybe hes getting over it. maybe he IS over it. maybe he thinks im really annoying. maybe he doesnt like it when i text him. maybe he wants to see other girls. maybe he IS seeing other girls...

why cant i just know or at least be content in NOT knowing? why does my personality need to involve so much over thinking?
